Have you ever felt the weight of the ocean crashing down on you?

Maybe you’ve lost someone you love. Maybe it was that unexpected phone call or text message. It could have taken place at a doctor’s office, a hospital bedside, or a mangled car. You could have heard the crashing waves when your partner came home just a bit too early from work or when you saw that look on your child’s face that said “something just isn’t right”.

It can happen to anyone, at anytime, and in anyplace.

With social media, it’s hard to think other people struggle. With all the weddings, new babies, new homes, new cars, etc, it’s easy to think that you must be the only one struggling to breathe under the constantly crashing waves.

Sometimes we feel lost at sea. Everyone is so involved with their own lives that we feel shipwrecked in this ocean, alone and wondering what direction we should travel in. With no land in site, not even a hint, where do we even begin to navigate how to get ourselves back to safety? Who could possibly help us now?

And yet, a voice calls to us. With love and warmth, it calls to us, saying:

  • Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
  • Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
  • Cast your burden on the Lordand He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” (Psalm 55:22)

Some will never know just how deep your ocean is. They will think you’re just swimming in the deep end of the pool when you know you’re really drowning out at sea. But there is one who knows even the most minute of your struggles and HE is the author of Peace.

He beckons us to follow Him through the crashing ways back to shore. He may take us through tougher waves to get there. The skies may look darker where He leads. The winds may be fiercer and the path may seem like a dead end.

Will you follow Him? Will you let Him guide you home?
