“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” – John 13:35

Can we be real for a moment?

Can we, as brothers and sisters in the faith, admit to each other that we have allowed a very serious foothold wide open for Satan?

And what would that foothold be, the one that will tear us apart if we don’t do something NOW?

We are more divided than ever, finding every and any little thing to fight about and justify turning our back against the brethren.

But God NEVER intended it to be this way.

“There is neither Jew not Greek, there is neither space nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” – Galatians 3:28

We have our differences. God didn’t intend to wipe out our different point of views. Our differences make us diverse and able to see things from various angles. However, we need to understand that we come from ONE body. A body can’t work if the arm fights with the leg or the eye fights with the mouth.

Instead, we need to work together, despite our differences, in order for us to really make a difference.

What if those who feel really strong about certain theologies?

Well, I was one of those people. I was prideful in my reformed theology and was willing to go at anybody that disagreed with even ONE of the 5 points of reformed theology (I’d even argue with pastors).

And how did I edify they body of Christ with my “zeal”?

I didn’t. I did a LOT of damage.

See, I’ve seen people I agree with 100% theologically act in utterly heartless ways, devoid of the grace they always talk about. And I’ve seen people that I disagree with on almost every “open handed issue” reach their hands out to people in need and help them.

I’m still reformed. I still believe almost all of those theologies that I did when I argued with people all the time. False teachers still boil my blood, but I’m a little less willing to lump someone into that category.

As years have passed, I’ve learned there is only on hill you should be okay with dying on.

It’s not the hill of “women pastors”.

It’s not the hill of “what constitutes holy music”.

It’s not the hill of “denominations”.

It’s not even the hill of “Calvinism”.

The only hill you should die on is the hill of Jesus Christ.

I know I’m over simplifying it (because there are more things that are essential to being Christian that belong in that “closed hand” category), but the point is this: the most important thing about our faith of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Not John Calvin.

Not John Wesley.

Jesus Christ.

We can agree to disagree with our brothers and sister on those more open handed issues, but at the end of the day, God calls us to lock arms with Christians we disagree with and “love one another”.

I’m committed to that.

Can we be real?

Are you?
